You were pretty close! Group A is
When will they announce the schedule? And more details about this new system cause it looks a mess to me. I don't understand why they changed something that was quite simple.

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
The schedule is up on the fibaeurope site. By the looks of it the team with the top record advances to final 8 while the other 14 teams (top 5 from each group get out) play out the other 7 spots.
I like the Final Eight idea more than the Final Four. It might get me to visit that event because in a way it's like Open LFB - maaany good and great basketball players at one place.

you can't say they're unlucky.. they have great players...probably the best players.. there is no reason to be scared of something..They have just to play!

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
I mean their unlucky semi-finals in previous years against Spartak MR, plus this year's draw result, which makes them seem "unlucky". They have world best players, an undoubtable championship competitor this season )))basketcarlos wrote:misspeach wrote:Poor E-burg, always unlucky in Euroleague (((

According to Ros Casares the Final Eight host qualifies for that part of the tournament. Top 4 teams + 2 best fifth placed teams advance to the eightfinals. If the host is among them than the third fifth placed team also qualifies.

Besides the draw and accepting the new competition system they've also canceled the All-Star game this season.

That's not a big loss, last year's game felt like a fashion show to display the new uniforms.

This might take longer than anticipated.
I have the attention span of my dog, so it's not happening as fast as I expected.

Dude, at least you're starting damn early. I'd have tried to write all three group previews the day before the games started.JohnyK wrote:This might take longer than anticipated.

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
Looks like I've got too much to say for a post of all eight teams together. I really doubt someone would bother reading a post of 5k+ words.
So starting tomorrow I'll post them on team-by-team basis starting with UMMC.

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
What´s about system competition? Two groups of 8 teams and one group with 7 teams. What´s the solution? Maybe ratio (Win Matches/ Played Matches)?

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
Top 4 from each group go through to the eightfinals as well as the 2 best 5th placed teams. By November FIBA will decide on the host team of the Final Eight - they will automatically qualify for the Final Eight. If that team is among those 14 that qualified for the eightfinals the third 5th placed team will qualify. In the eighfinals there will be 14 teams in 7 pairs (as previously, they'll be seeded based on the winning record + points for/against ratio) who will play a best of 3 series, the winners will join the host in the Final Eight. In the final eight the teams will be split in two groups of 4 using ranking established in the regular season. The winners of each group will meet in the final. I guess the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams will also face off against each other.

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
hi everyone, i heard about tournament in Trutnov, CZE.
It's kind of preparation before starting of Euroleague new season,
and there will be 5 teams:
KARA Trutnov, ZVVZ USK Prague, CCC Polkowice, Wisła Can-Pack Kraków and TSV Wasserburg.
Somebody know in what team/which players will take part in this tourney?
{Prague, Kraków, Polkowice}
HMMMM..
another question,
is the competition in Toruń,PL confirmed?
I read about Energa Torun, Nadiezhda, UMMC,
maybe Fenerbahce, Artego Bydgoszcz and again Kraków team
Will it take?

Re: ELW 2011/12 draw
Wow, so completely dispensing with semi-finals then? I thought with the final-eight they'd just do quarters, semis, final, but I guess at least the groups thing guarantees teams multiple meaningful games. Also means they might really have to push it if they want to continue forcibly preventing teams from the same country making the final. Could end up with one 'Russian group' and one 'Spanish group' at the final eight plus a couple of interlopers.JohnyK wrote:Top 4 from each group go through to the eightfinals as well as the 2 best 5th placed teams.
