Time to begin the predictions of the roster.. maybe a prize for those who get the most correct prior to the announcement

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
PG: Prince, Danilochkina
SG: Korstin, Karpunina
SF: Abrosimova, Shilova
PF: Arteshina, Kuzhina, Sokolovskaya
C: Stepanova, Osipova, Vidmer
That's just my estimate. You never know with Russia. They'll probably have Vieru instead of Shilova and play Arteshina at SF if needed. The one thing I'm sure about is that Prince has to be on the team instead of Hammon.

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
Sometimes I guess applying some nice logic like that isn't always the way that coaches and Federations go I suppose the only certainty is that Russia will be strong. Russia are the kind of team I think can always be there challenging and I like Hammon but think Prince...sorry Prints gives them a fuller package

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
The way this reads is that she won't be available for prepartion games????
Are we 100% confident it is a definite no to the tournament also?

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
Epiphanny Prince has obligations with the Russian National Team and is day-to-day with the Sky according to Chicago head coach and general manager Pokey Chatman. If the Russian team calls, Prince will head to Europe.

What the hell?! From what the Russians have said they've been negotiating to get her for a while.

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
I think that may be an inaccuracy (the last phrase).
The big issue is why Pokey would even say it is day to day. I mean she either goes or she doesn't.
The plot thickens and maybe there is a lot more to it than meets the eyeotherwise it would have been resolved by now for sure

Monday's news in english:
http://www.eurobasketwomen2011.com/en/coid_PrIVPpi,I0gVljV2U3caP1.articleMode_on.html
I didn't follow the negociations at the beginning cause I was sad to see Hammon go and be replaced by Prince but wasn't all this so that Prince would play for Russia in the EuroBasket? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't she supposed to play for Poland at one point?

I have to admit I've never been a fan of imported players in National teams even if it can level the playing field a little.I hope that young Russians can take her place. They may not have her skills, but they will be playing to honour their country and their flag, and for them it will not be an empty phrase.

Not sure who and why started those rumors about Poland (I remember someone from Poland had added that to her WikiPedia page) last year but at that time from what I had been told she already had a Russian passport.

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
Why on Earth don't they just call up Deanna Nolan? They gave her the passport eons ago, and yet she's never played a game for them. She's not even playing in the WNBA, thanks to her Russian contract (and the demise of the Shock), so it would be far easier than the debacles we've watched go on with first Hammon and then Prince. And if she's in shape, Nolan's probably better than either of them anyway.

Tweety's game has seriously dropped lately
Her stats from this season: http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=RUS&PlayerID=79174
Looking at this I really wouldn't even bother thinking of taking her to the National Team.

She's in the team with a lot of scoring options, stats alone don't tell the whole story but Russia is weak at the PG spot, and Nolan sure isn't one.

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
Yeah, Nolan gets completely sidelined in that UMMC team because of the way they play and volume of scorers around her. And I know she's not a point guard, but Prince and Hammon barely are/were either, and the coach has already declared that Abrosimova is going to be his leader and starting point guard anway.
Obviously it's not going to happpen at this stage, but I've just never really understood why they gave her the passport and then semed to ignore her as an option, even when she was the one who started skipping the WNBA (making her far more easily available than the others).

How Epiphanny Prince's Russian National Team Commitment Could Affect The Chicago Sky
Russia are negociating Prince's participation yet Chatman claims she hasn't been summoned yet
On May 10, FIBA reported that the Russian team has already begun their training camp and that "Prince will join the group later in the preparations." Chatman addressed Prince's status with the Russian Women's National Team in a teleconference with media this afternoon and essentially said they aren't clear about when Prince might leave the team.
"We're still waiting for when Epiphanny will have to depart from us, and I planned for it the minute she started playing well in Russia and Europe and became a focal point of what they wanted to do with respect to her contract and the agreement that she had that was prior to Chicago," Chatman said when asked about Prince's situation. "So that status is day to day. They're still playing in tournaments and they're preparing for the day to day situation."
According the FIBA website, Russia will be participating in the Eurobasket women's tournament, which runs from June 18 to July 3. Not including travel time, that overlaps with six Sky games, including two against the 2010 Western Conference finalist Phoenix Mercury.
Without further details about how Russia will choose to handle this situation, it's too early to panic but definitely something to watch for as the Sky's season begins.

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
Prince isn't going anywhere.
According to this interview with the head coach, Prince's agent continually postponed her arrival which would now be on June 12 (which means that what Pokey said that Prince will go as soon as the Russians will want her was BS). Her final deadline was today which she missed and they essentially said screw it she's not a star to make us wait on her.

Re: Group A - Russia Roster
Epiphanny Prince won't play in Euros
"We have been supportive of Piph fulfilling her commitment to the Russian team from the start and really, it was always a questions of `when' she would go, not `if," Sky coach Pokey Chatman said. "Frankly, I'm surprised that the team decided not to use her, but their choice clearly helps us a great deal. We're thrilled to have her for the entire WNBA season."
